Alphabet Books Lesson
TOPIC: Technology
CYCLE: 5/6
DURATION: 1 Month Long Project
OBJECTIVES : Students must complete an alphabet book using technological resources.
COMPETENCIES:
-To propose explanations for or solutions to scientific or technological problems
-To make the most of scientific and technological tools, objects and procedures
-To communicate in the languages used in science and technology.
MATERIALS : Use of Computers in the lab.
INTRODUCTION: Students will be shown some preexisting alphabet book for an example of what they are expected to create.(for example: A Canadian alphabet book, or one on animals, or countries in the world)
DEVELOPMENT:
1. The class will be asked to have a discussion before beginning to work on computers. During this time, the assignment will be explained.
2. Students must begin by each choosing a theme to work on. They must first submit this theme to the teachers. (They must not copy the work of their peers. Each student is to work individually.)
3. Using word processing software each student must create an alphabet book. They must list the letters of the alphabet on each page with images from the Internet corresponding with their chosen theme.
4. All work must be well designed and organized, with interesting backgrounds.
5. They must then record their voice telling us the sound of each letter and image.
6. They can use lab time to do research on their theme.
7. (This assignment should take several weeks to complete)
ASSESSMENT: The assessment will be based on the final completed projects. Each book should be unique and individual.
A Rubric will be created to score the final projects.
CONCLUSION: Upon completing their project, students will then share their alphabet books with a younger grade level.
They may want to print and bind their books for their own copy, but a digital copy is all that is required to hand in.
Students should have gained knowledge on working and using software tools.
